  • Why are useless teams allowed to take part in cricket world cup?

    Teams like netherlands, canada, ireland, kenya, bangladesh are playing in WC 2011. It is very obvious they will be washed away swiftly in the first round itself. There is no significance or sense. They don't know how to play cricket and have no background whatsoever. In recent world cups this has been a trend. Bermuda, Namibia, also played in recent world cups, and they were a joke. What is the point of seeing a one-sided match with these teams? Its just waste of time and makes world cup boring. The WC should be restricted to the original 9 countries (bangladesh not counted) or a new team entering WC must know how to play. If ICC thinks it makes world cup more exciting by adding such teams, then they are dreaming
    i'm glad in 2015 world cup no such teams are allowed and the WC 2015 is only restricted to test playing nations. Its too bad, ICC's eyes didn't open fast enough to realize such teams are tournament killers

  • Totally agree with you.

    WC should be limited to top 8 teams only.

  • "Fifty-over cricket will hold its own" - says Ponting based on CT, but what does ICC need to do to ensure it?

    Friends,

    Ponting thinks this has been the best organized CT he says:

    ""I was worried at the time when 20-over cricket became as popular as it did that we might start playing a few less 50-over games, but I think tournaments like this can only help the game.

    "I've really enjoyed the tournament and I think the fans around South Africa have enjoyed the tournament, so it's got some endorsement from me, and even a low-scoring game like today can probably be one of the more entertaining games that you can watch and be involved in as a player."

    Ponting, who also picked up the Player-of-the-Series and Golden bat awards after his side defended their title, has played in all six editions of the Champions Trophy. But he said the latest edition, which was reduced to only eight teams for the first time, had been the best organised.

    i found this mini wc as the best since 2000 edition..no meaningless matches,tight,compact,small and fortunately played on pitches of south africa providing even bat ball contest like the two t20 world cups in sa and eng(not the usually flat, slow and dead tracks of subcontinent)..it was very exciting and gripping to see depleted nz side defending a small total with bond and mills especially troubling australian top order with the new ball in final..but sadly icc hasnt taken any cue from compact format of this champions trophy and a disastrous last ODI wc as it has again included 14 teams for wc2011..this means again we'll have too many one sided useless contests(like ind vs netherlands,aus vs canada etc.)..12 teams r enuf in ODI wc like 1996 and 1999 editions..if icc wants to promote cricket in other nations it shud do it with t20 format..have 16 teams in a t20 wc coz it offers more chance for weaker teams to surprise strong ones..and even if contest is one sided it finishes in 3hrs

    1) Do you agree or disagree with these 2 views, if not why not?

    2) Do you think ICC needs to do something more to ensure that 50-50 cricket may not have the same fate as archaeopteryx lithographica?

  • Why should we rate this Indian team so highly if it isnt performing good at ICC tourneys?

    Except the 2007 ICC T20 WC , we have been pathetic in all major tourneys..

    Champions trophy 2004 - knocked out in first round
    Champions trophy 2006- knocked out in first round
    50-50 WC 2007- knocked out in first bround
    T20 WC 2007 - winners
    T20 WC 2009 - knocked out in super 8 stage (cudnt win a single match against d good teams)

    And now this Champions trophy- where if we lose another match, we'l again get knocked out in first round

    If it happens, it will be our 5th big big failure in last 6 major ICC tournaments..

    The shameful part is that we must have entered into at least 5 of these tourneys as one of the top contenders
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    To me what matters is good performances in ICC tourneys.
    No body gives a damn about winning those useless bilateral trilateral series.
    It has all gotta do with having big match players.. we need them !
    We need a world class attacking bowling line-up . Our bowling is just a decent. Its defensive.
    We need bowlers that can tear apart batting line-ups in big matches instead of tryin to contain them to a low score which never really happens..
    The fielding has remained an embarrassment..
    Batting is ok but under pressure they always find the most ridiculous ways to get run out which just makes me more mad..
    We're not really being a good big match team.
    That defensive bowling-field placings , poor fielding, silly run outs..
    These are not signs of a good big match team..
    Need to do a lot about these things.
    Otherwise we'll keep getting humiliated in ICC tournaments
  • Is the useless series against New Zealand more important than Asian games?
    Why did BCCI refuse to send the team for asian games (next month)?
    India had a chance to win gold medal because other teams are
    Afghanistan
    Bangladesh
    China
    Nepal
    Oman
    Pakistan
    Sri Lanka
    United Arab Emirates
    asian games are tougher than Commonwealth because India wins 20 to 30 gold medals in commonwealth games but hardly 10 gold medals in Asian games. Cricket had a great chance to get us another medal?
