Answers to:
Is there a worse sports city on Earth than Toronto?
Toronto is the only Canadian city with representation in five major league sports, with teams in the National Hockey League, Major League Baseball, National Basketball Association, Canadian Football League, and Major League Soccer. The National Football League's Buffalo Bills also play select home games in the city. The city's major sports venues include the Air Canada Centre, Rogers Centre (formerly known as SkyDome), Ricoh Coliseum, and BMO Field.
Toronto is home to the Toronto Maple Leafs, one of the National Hockey League's Original Six clubs, and has also served as home to the Hockey Hall of Fame since 1958. The city has a rich history of hockey championships. Along with the Maple Leafs' 13 Stanley Cup titles (second all-time), the Toronto Marlboros and St. Michael's College School-based Ontario Hockey League teams combined have won a record 12 Memorial Cup titles. The Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League also play in Toronto at Ricoh Coliseum and are the farm team for the Maple Leafs. They are currently the only AHL team that is located in the same market as its NHL parent club.
Toronto is currently home to the only National Basketball Association franchise outside the United States. The Toronto Raptors entered the league in 1995, and have since earned five playoff spots in 14 seasons. The Raptors won the Atlantic Division title in the 2006–07 season, led by star player Chris Bosh. The Raptors are the only NBA team with their own television channel, Raptors NBA TV. The team plays their home games at the Air Canada Centre.
The Toronto Rock are the city's National Lacrosse League team. They are one of the league's most successful franchises, winning five Champion's Cup titles in seven years in the late 1990s and early 2000s, appearing in an NLL record 5 straight championship games from 1999 to 2003, and are currently second all-time in the number of Champion's Cups won. The Rock share the Air Canada Centre with the Maple Leafs and the Raptors.
The city is represented in the Canadian Football League by the Toronto Argonauts, who have won a league-leading 15 Grey Cup titles. Toronto played host to the 95th Grey Cup in 2007, the first held in the city since 1992. In addition, the city has hosted several National Football League exhibition games; Ted Rogers leased the Buffalo Bills from Ralph Wilson for the purposes of having the Bills play eight home games in the city between 2008 and 2012. The city is also home to Major League Baseball's Toronto Blue Jays, who have won two World Series (1992 and 1993) titles and are currently the only Major League Baseball team in Canada. Both the Argonauts and Blue Jays (as well as the Bills when they are in town) play their home games at the Rogers Centre, in the downtown core.
Toronto is home to the International Bowl, an NCAA sanctioned post-season football game that puts a Mid-American Conference team against a Big East Conference team. Beginning in 2007, the game is played at the Rogers Centre annually in January.
.Besides team sports, the city annually hosted Champ Car's Molson Indy Toronto at Exhibition Place from 1986 to 2007. The race was revived in 2009 as the Honda Indy Toronto, part of the IndyCar Series schedule. Both thoroughbred and standardbred horse racing events are conducted at Woodbine Racetrack in Rexdale.
Historic sports clubs of Toronto include the Granite Club (established in 1836), the Royal Canadian Yacht Club (established in 1852), the Toronto Cricket Skating and Curling Club (established in pre-1827), the Argonaut Rowing Club (established in 1872), the Toronto Lawn Tennis Club (established in 1881), and the Badminton and Racquet Club (established in 1924).
Toronto was a candidate city for the 1996 and 2008 Summer Olympics, which were awarded to Atlanta and Beijing respectively. The Canadian Olympic Committee is currently considering a Toronto bid for the 2020 or 2024 Summer Olympics.
Toronto will be hosting the 2015 Pan American Games in July 2015. It contested against the cities of Lima, Peru and Bogotá, Colombia.
Every single team in Toronto SUCKS!
Toronto Maple Leafs...SUCK!!!!!!!
Toronto Argos.....SUCK!!!!!!!
Toronto Blue Jays SUCK
Toronto Raptors SUCK SUCK
Toronto FC SUCK
Toronto University and York University Football are two of the worst in Canada!
WHY does the nations largest city have such horrid sports teams?
For all you idiot Americans talking about how the CFL doesn't count I have news for you, but the Argos are second to the Leafs in popularity in this city. And literally NOBODY cares about the Toronto FC or the lacrosse teams. It goes
1. Leafs
2. Argos
3. Blue Jays
4. Raptors
5. FC
And the more important the sports, the worse the Toronto teams suck!
Data : 2010-07-18 02:01:12Whoa, a bit harsh. Blue Jays have been decent in recent memory.
Leafs are still in recovery from the Ballard years. Look up, my
local hockey team has never won The Cup, and the local MLB
team used to be the Expos. The local NFL team and the nearby
AL team have toxic ownership. The local NBA team won one
title in the '70s. I feel for you, but keep the faith.Date : 2010-07-18 02:40:49

Is it now or never for Canada to create its own Soccer League?
I know I have posted a question regarding this in the past. So, please bear with me.
This time I’m giving you folks a link to Canadians who are playing in foreign leagues. This list does fail to list all Canadians who are playing in the USL.
A ownership group called the TOA, is looking to leave the USL and create their own league (the group has filed for second tier status in Canada and USA). Some of the owners that are involved in the TOA are Montreal’s and Vancouver’s owners. I have read that there are 2 more ownership groups (Edmonton and Calgary) who are in talks with the TOA if they are granted recognition.
As a Canadian I see this as the perfect opportunity to create a Canadian League. I see several of potential clubs: Toronto FC, Vancouver Whitecaps, Montreal Impact, Edmonton (Interested in joining TOA’s League), Calgary (Interested in joining TOA’s League), and Ottawa (Interested in joining MLS). If the CSA would begin the process of creating its own league this is a GREAT starting point. With 6 markets/ownership groups are already interested, why not start to plan such a league. If the CSA were to set league start date of say 2012, a few more markets/ownership groups could also surface and then the CSA could be selective of where 2 other potential clubs would be placed. I believe Quebec City would be a GREAT city for a club. It has a strong French History and the city is very independent. I would think the support for a club in Quebec City would rival any clubs in the world! Another decent market would be Winnipeg.
The CSA only has to follow MLS and the format it used to start the league. There is government money to be had for building soccer specific stadiums. Seeing that most stadiums that would be built are only going to seat 20-25K. Fairly inexpensive stadiums compared to the likes of NHL or CFL venues.
Australia has an 8 team league and they have had clubs in the Club World Cup, and look at how well their National is doing. MLS started out with 8 clubs and now are at 16 for the start of 2010; the Americans are now perhaps the best National team in CONCACAF. With several of Canadians now playing overseas in the EPL, Bundesliga, Eredivisie, SPL, Norway, Belgium, Greek Super League, Denmark, Romania, Finland as well as others. 19 Canadians are playing in first division leagues with several of others playing in the Bundesliga 2 and England’s Championship and Coca-Cola leagues. I’m aware that not all players would return to Canada, however several players would (look at what happened when MLS first started, overwhelming numbers of Americans left Europe to help start the league).
I just ask for you folks to look at the big picture.
What is the chance that such a league could happen? When do you think a Canadian League will be formed? Do you think a Canadian League would help gain more respect for CONCACAF?
What good do you see happening if Canada were to create a Canadian Premier League?

Canada hasn't made it to the World Cup since 1986. A major reason is because of the growth of the rest of CONCACAF. Each of the countries that made it to the final round of qualifying have their own leagues. The CSL is pratically a pub league. A real league is Canada's only chance.
