The ICC Cricket World Cup is set to be ushered in with a grand opening ceremony here on Thursday as the game's showpiece event returns to the sub-continent after 15 years, shrugging off the controversy of Eden Gardens being stripped off a marquee match, involving co-hosts India. The Bangladeshi capital, which has spruced up itself for the biggest event in their cricketing history, will take centrestage of the cricketing world with a two-hour spectacle of song, dance and laser shows at the Bangabandhu National Stadium. Internationally-acclaimed rock star Bryan Adams, Indian singing trio of Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy and Sonu Nigam will be among the performers to set the stage for the tournament, reflecting the increasing role the entertainment aspect has started to be associated with the game. Two days later, Bangladesh and co-hosts India clash in the inaugural game at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium at Mirpur, on Dhaka's outskirts to herald the beginning of 43 days of action spread across 13 venues in three countries. The other host country Sri Lanka start off their campaign against lowly Canada in a Group A encounter in Colombo on Sunday. The sub-continent had its first date with the World Cup when India and Pakistan hosted it in 1987 before Sri Lanka joined them in 1996. this is such a bias video! showed nz getting out and no runs. then u go and show aus hitting boundaries. pathetic.

  • Psylonz
@JAY86953 thanks man. i agree with you. although i get angry with the nz team playing so poorly lately, they still have character. i really cringe when i see australia play. they are full of themselves and are complete sore losers.

  • griceng
Martin Snedden is a god. He made this team just like hes going to make the worls cup. GO MARTY!!!

  • IanGorton
Well they brought them back for the first few Twenty20s. Made it a retro theme

  • IanGorton
Yeah they wore Grey with the black for quite a while through the 90s

  • mkeysou812
interesting game - australia very much on the rise after years of terrible results and nz starting to wane (despite their brief resurgence in 92 world cup). nz bowling looks pedestrian except for hadlee. that lbw was a shocker! thank god for neutral umpires

  • whoismtz
I absolutely agree with you mate!

  • dyb4life
Stupid Umpire! How can he not call that LBW!

  • haseeb66
richard hadlee and martin crowe are my favourites...i love nz

  • philby971
New Zealand......where the men are men and the sheep are nervous!! By the way, NuXta.....SCOREBOARD, mate!

  • NuXta
So, with no prior knowledge of the game or basis for reasoning, you decide to brand one of its legends as a wanker. Sigh... thanks for your contribution.

  • luvbite1
Hadlee had to laugh at the ump- incompetent at the very least; and a cheat- probably. And I agree with you hsv941200 too- beautifully put.

  • natoffice
at least dyer actually caught those ones...

  • StevenMirinoa
    thank you hsv9412000,true and true

  • hsv9412000
Well philby971 with comments like that no wonder people hate both the Americans and the Aussies.

  • OzTwanger
Botham a hard act to stop when he got going

  • cancricfan
Botham..helmetless and destroying the Aussies, no greater sight is there for an England fan. Bring back Beefy!!

  • whatsmylogin
FWIW, an odd coincicence: I saw this game on TV twenty years ago. For some reason, a week ago I remembered the cool dude in the crowd (around 4.00) who caught the six and continued to smoke his cigarette like nothing had happened. Then today I searched youtube for something unrelated (=those amazing 1987 Botham one-day innings), and of all things I see the aforementioned catch only a week after this long-forgotten memory had returned to me.

  • IanGorton
Yeah definatly a fashion faux par

  • IanGorton
Trying Dipak Patel as a pinch hitter there

  • SouthAuck
    Great victory NZ

  • mervemcpeake

  • atsporty
@MHJanson but they still took the risk against unintentional slippage ===badass confirmed

  • IanGorton
@ludocrat Yeah the 1986/87 summer when England won everything. The Ashes The WSC and the B&H Perth Challenge

  • jnshakmaster
When fit and on form Dilley was quite effective. This tour was the highlight of his career

  • mgbgt1967
great footage of one of the fastest bowlers in english cricket. Thank-you

  • jamal22066
Hmmmm...they couldnt bowl bouncers till only like 4 years ago. People wore helmets in the 90s though.(talkin about one dayers). I just guess the batsmen werent too worried those days about gettin hit.

  • jamal22066
Everyone was a badass back in the day huh. No helmets

  • Afzaalkhan
