BBC SCHOOL REPORT: 1983 England-A tribute
Posted By NCResurrected
India, might have been a very weak country in the 80's but those 14 heroes who changed the face of India from darkness to a ray of hope, are honored in this video tribute by Nishkarsh Chugh, from Apeejay School, Pitampura for BBC School Report on the topic "World Cup" In the World Cup 1979, West Indies were the champions and India didn't win even a single match and tied with Canada on the 8th spot. The 1983 World Cup was full of dramatic cricket right from the start. Teams like India and Zimbabwe who were not playing well at those times scored upset victories over the West Indies and Australia respectively. England, Pakistan, India and tournament favorites West Indies qualified for the semifinals. Most of the Indian team in 1972 was replaced leaving only a few players like Mohinder Amarnath, Dilip Vengsarkar and Sunil Gavaskar remained. The previous captain, Srinivas Venkataraghavan and the previous wicket keeper, Surinder Khanna were replaced by new and enthusiastic Kapil Dev and Syed Kirmani respectively. My parents. being a witness of both the tournaments, can't even explain how happy and proud the whole nation was when India became a WINNER, a RULER, a KING
